Project 2: CD-ROM interface DESIGN

A. Objective

For the second multimedia display assignment, you will be designing the interface for an interactive Spanish language learning CD-ROM. Create an interface that is visually engaging, as well as functional. You must continue to research and analyze existing interactive CD-ROM design. Take into consideration information architecture, content structure, navigation, visual hierarchy, usability and fundamental design principles while developing your designs.

Some of questions you should be answering in your research phase:

-What's the difficulty level for this program? (Beginner, intermediate, advanced, etc.)

-Who is your audience? (Age group, purpose of learning language, etc.)

-What should be included in a language learning program? (Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, conversation, translation, dictionary, etc.)

-How will the user learn the language? What methods are provided in the program? (Learn by text, examples, cultural examples, audio files, videos, interactive exercises, games, quizzes, tests, etc.)

-What role do images play in the program? How might imagery help users understand and
remember the information?

B. Technical Requirements

1. You must create at least 4 sectional interface pages that match the following criteria:

A) One of the pages must display a navigation system that will inform the viewer how to access the other sections of the program.
B) One page must teach the viewer about a particular verb in Spanish.
C) One page must display the interface for audio/video content that will be use as a type of learning method.
D) One page must teach the viewer 5 different Spanish vocabulary words.
E) You must create and develop a company name (and/or logo) to be used in your interface

2. You will use of Flash or Dreamweaver to help you create a minimally functioning interface. Each of the sectional pages must be accessed dynamically through functioning buttons. Delivery will be in the form of an HTML document.

C. Due Dates

1. Flowcharts and wireframes (worth 10% of project 2 grade) due 11/10/08.

2. Rough designs (worth 10% of project 2 grade) due 11/17/08.

3. Completed Project (worth 80% of project 2 grade) due 11/26/08.
*Everyone must submit a completed project. Late work will be accepted for the completed project phase, however, your project grade will drop 10% for every day it is late (turning it in at 9:14am on Nov. 26 is considered 1 day late)
