Project 3: DVD Menu Design

A. Objective

For the third multimedia display assignment, you will be designing the interface for a DVD Menu. This DVD menu will be used in an interactive DVD featuring video and images from an event called, “Passion For Fashion”. Your client for this project is the Art Institute of Ohio-Cincinnati.

Create an interface that is visually engaging, as well as functional. You must continue to research and analyze existing interactive design as well as DVD menu design. Take into consideration information architecture, content structure, navigation, visual hierarchy, positioning/alignment, usability and fundamental design principles while developing your designs.

B. Technical Requirements

1. Canvas Dimensions: 720 x 480 pixels

2. You must create at least 4 sectional DVD menu interface screens that match the following criteria:

- One screen must display the Main Menu interface, which at a minimum should feature a title, the Art Institute logo, and the following buttons: play video, image gallery, additional info
- One screen must display the interface for the Image Gallery
- One screen must display the Collateral information (informational text about the event)
- One screen must display the Video selection interface (allow the user to pick which video to watch: a one minute video, a three minute video, outtake clips/deleted scenes)

3. EACH of your buttons must have a normal state AND hover state

4. You must incorporate the existing AI logo as well as create a logo/branding for the title “Passion for Fashion” to be used in somewhere in your DVD menu interface

5. You must submit the following files for the final project delivery
- a PSD file with your interface elements on separate layers.
- JPEGs of each of your 4 sectional pages with corresponding JPEG that show the hover state of button

C. Due Dates

1. Typeface/Color sheet (worth 10% of project 3 grade) due 12/03/08.

3. Completed Project (worth 80% of project 3 grade) due 12/15/08.
*Everyone must submit a completed project. Late work will be accepted for the completed project phase, however, your project grade will drop 10% for every day it is late (turning it in at 9:14am on Dec. 15 is considered 1 day late)
